ABOUT

We all are the product of our own experiences. Everything you do, all the people you meet, all the events you see mold your mind in some shape or form. Being able to dissect those experiences has been one of Jose Cordova’s greatest tool. As a native Houstonian, Jose has been able to witness the diversity of people and culture from around the world. It has led him to want to explore his own roots and culture. As a son of two Mexican American parents, he has fallen in love with the rich culture of Mexico which can be seen in much of his artwork.

While being enamored with history, he has also been intrigued by modernity and the simplicity of it which is one of the reasons he studied architecture at the Gerald D. Hines College of Architecture at the University of Houston. He was able to take his passion and knowledge of the rugged street art and translate it to the straight and crisp lines of architecture. Here he was also introduced to many other fields such as industrial design and graphic design which he has also been heavily influenced by.

His life has always been about balance. In much of his work, you can see he is always trying to bridge the past and the present which is why he is always looking up at the stars and painting them.

“WHEN WE ARE LOOKING AT A STAR, WE ARE SEEING IT AS IT WAS MILLIONS OF YEARS AGO. IT STILL BLOWS MY MIND TO THINK ABOUT HOW THAT STAR MIGHT NOT EVEN EXIST ANY MORE. PAST AND PRESENT DANCING ON THE EDGE OF OUR EYES.”
